Texas Gulf Coast Hummer Owners Group
Our club was established to promote the lifestyle and understanding of what it means to own a Hummer both on and off the road. The owners that make up our club are down to earth family oriented people that are seeking the opportunity to meet other owners anywhere and everywhere. We hope to meet more owners, and find other exciting opportunities to enjoy being a part of the Hummer Community.

Highway 87 - High Island to Sabine Pass

Road Closed? I don't think so....The members over at ClubHummerOffroad.com (CHO) decided to put together a run, Sunday, January 24 down the abandoned State Highway 87 from High Island to Sabine Pass.  This highway has been abandoned for a few decades due to it being almost completely washed away by hurricanes hitting the Texas Gulf Coast.  TGCHOG members asked if we could tag along, and CHO said absolutely!  This run is going to be a very well attended event, wth over 20 Hummers and close to 60 people.  The day will start out with breakfast at the Golden Corral in Galveston (6200 Seawall Blvd), then we'll caravan to the Galveston/Bolivar Ferry.  Just imagine, a whole ferry full of Hummers, what a sight that's going to be.  We will begin the run at Highway 87 and 124 in High Island at 12 noon.  If you're interested in tagging along, please check the forum for more information.

2nd Annual TGCHOG Halloween "Fun Run"

Chad George Club Reporter

The Texas Gulf Coast Hummer Owners Group had its 2nd Annual Halloween “Fun Run” October 9th-11th, 2009.  It started out as one of those rainy weekend runs, we are so used to when we go off-roading.     But despite the weather, everyone was excited about the weekend.  11 Hummers and 1 jeep (since we like everyone to have fun) took to the trails.  Those who were able to head up early were able to partake in the night run.  Anyone that loves to off road, would enjoy the experience of driving the trails at night.  The obstacles appear more menacing at night due to the shadows created by the head lights.

The next morning we met and had the driver’s information meeting by the campfire, then off to the trails prepped by the rain.  This made for some fun Hummer “slip and slide” trails.   After lunch, it was back out to Helicopter Hill.  Just one look at the photos from the trip and you can see just what the Hummers can really do in difficult terrain.

The kids are the main reason for the Halloween run.  While most of the trucks went back out on the trails after lunch, those who stayed behind set up the campsite into a kid play area.  From the jump house to the piñata, the kids returned to a great play area.  It started out with the biggest silly string war Shiloh Ridge had ever seen.  Of course, the adults got into it as well, somehow some pink hair spray ended up in with the silly string.   Andy and his pink ears can attest to its existence.  Then the old fashion apple bob tub came out.  The kids all got the hang of it.  After the piñata, the kids went trick or treating “Hummer Style”.  All the vehicles made a circle formation around the outside of the camp.  Linda got an A+ on her Hummer version of the one eye, one horn, flying purple people eater impression.  I believe the best part though was watching Wyatt (age 5) drag a 10 lb. plastic pumpkin filled to the brim with candy across the field to me.  He said it was “so heavy I cannot lift it up anymore”, laughing I asked him if he had enough which his response was “never enough candy”.

I would consider this run one of our most successful.  The kids both young and old had a great time.  We had no break downs and nothing but fun.  Hope to see everyone next year.

Thank you to all who attended and made this trip a success!

Katemcy Rocks - June 2009

Those of you absent for this run missed an experience of a lifetime. 14 Hummers showed up for this closing weekend of the park and all 14 rolled out on there own. Many of the kids and a few adults went to the local bat caves in Mason.  They saw the flight of over 6 million bats into the evening sky.  Later that night, the camp site was filled with tornadoes and heavy rain only one tent was left standing in the midst of the travel trailers. We could have done without the storm.  We started early on Saturday, and drove a 16 mile course over some tough granite hills.  The obstacles were difficult to maneuver but with our trail guides and some of the best off-road vehicles made we made it over with ease.  Now for our Jeep counter parts on the trails, with them flipping and breaking, it made for a long day in several areas, as well as the 122 degree heat.  But in the end, the food at the steak house was worth the wait.  Hopefully we will be able to find another park of this magnitude to try out our vehicles.

Here's a link to the Image Gallery from this event.  Thanks go out to "Bugs" for the great pictures.  That guy didn’t spent more than 30 minutes in a single truck all day long.

Shiloh Ridge - February 2009

E-mail Print PDF

One cold weekend in February, TGCHOG headed out to Shiloh Ridge for the first run of the year.  The weather may have been cold but we still had a good group show up to do some mudding and hill climbing.  With our able pit crew of Auggie and James we were able to get all trucks off the trails and home.  The company and fun around the campfire at night is a thing to behold in person.  The more people come out the more fun we can have showing others what the Hummer can do on the trails.
